Terms of Use

1. Introduction

Welcome to TLDR, an AI-powered assistant for your personal email inbox, currently offered in a limited beta version via TestFlight. TLDR connects to your Gmail account, retrieves unread emails, and uses artificial intelligence to generate text and audio summaries for your convenience. The service is provided by the creator of TLDR (referred to here as “we,” “us,” or “our”) as an experimental product under active development.

By using the TLDR iOS application (“App”), or the TLDR website at www.tldr.af (“Website”), you agree to be bound by these Terms and Conditions (“Terms”), including our disclaimers of liability, data handling practices, and service limitations. If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use the App.

Please read these Terms carefully before using TLDR. We reserve the right to update or change these Terms at any time, and continued use of the App after such changes constitutes your acceptance of the revised Terms.

1.1 Use of the Website

The TLDR Website is a simple landing page where users can learn more about the product and submit their email address to request beta access. No other functionality is provided via the Website, and it should not be considered part of the TLDR App itself. The Website does not process user data or provide the TLDR service itself.

By entering your email address on the Website, you consent to being contacted about TLDR’s beta release and product updates. Your email will not be sold, shared, or used for unrelated marketing purposes.

2. Eligibility

To use the TLDR App, you must:
          - Be at least 18 years old (or the age of majority in your jurisdiction, if higher),
          - Have full legal authority to bind yourself to these Terms,
          - Use only your own Gmail account or an account you are explicitly authorized to access,
          - Not be prohibited by applicable law from using TLDR or connecting third-party services such as Gmail.

By accessing or using the App, you represent and warrant that you meet all of the above requirements. We reserve the right to revoke access if we believe you do not meet these criteria.

3. Service Description

TLDR is a personal email assistant that summarizes the contents of your unread Gmail messages using artificial intelligence. Once connected to your Gmail account, the TLDR server processes your email data through the OpenAI API to generate:
          - Individual summaries for each email, and
          - A daily summary, provided in both text and audio format, of your recent unread emails.

Your emails are temporarily processed on a secure server hosted on Google Cloud Platform. Summary data is stored using Firebase, and all application secrets and credentials are managed through Google Secret Manager.
Please note:
          - TLDR does not modify your Gmail account or emails.
          - TLDR does not send emails on your behalf.
          - TLDR is intended to provide convenient, high-level overviews only. Summaries may omit context, misinterpret content, or contain inaccuracies.
          - TLDR is not a replacement for legal, financial, medical, or professional judgment.

Use of the service is entirely at your own risk, and you are responsible for reviewing original emails before acting on any summarized content.

4. Beta Disclaimer

TLDR is currently in beta, offered as an early-access product for testing and feedback purposes. As such, it may:
          - Contain bugs or errors,
          - Undergo frequent changes without notice,
          - Be temporarily or permanently discontinued at any time.

During this beta phase, we make no commitments regarding availability, data retention, performance, or accuracy. You acknowledge and agree that:
          - The service is provided “as-is” and “as-available”,
          - You should not rely on TLDR summaries for any critical or time-sensitive matters,
          - Any data you provide may be lost, corrupted, or become temporarily inaccessible due to ongoing development.

We value your feedback and are actively working to improve the product. However, we do not guarantee that any issues you report will be resolved.

5. No Warranty / No Guarantee

You understand and agree that TLDR makes no warranties or guarantees of any kind, express or implied, regarding the service’s performance, accuracy, reliability, or suitability for any particular purpose.

Specifically:
          - Summaries may be inaccurate, misleading, incomplete, or contextually incorrect. This is due to the nature of large language models and automated processing of human language.
          - The App may fail to summarize certain emails, misidentify their importance, or omit critical content.
          - Audio summaries may include transcription or synthesis errors, and should not be relied upon for decision-making without checking the original emails.
          - You are solely responsible for verifying the content of any email and for any decisions you make based on TLDR’s summaries.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, including but not limited to:
          - Implied warranties of merchantability,
          - Fitness for a particular purpose,
          - Non-infringement,
          - Accuracy or reliability of summaries,
          - Security or availability of the App or backend systems.

Use of TLDR is at your sole risk, and the App is provided strictly “as-is” and “as-available.”

6. Data Security & Privacy

We take the security and privacy of your data seriously and have implemented industry-standard practices to protect it. However, you acknowledge and accept the inherent risks involved in transmitting and storing sensitive information, including email content, over the internet and through third-party services.

🔐 Infrastructure
TLDR uses the following infrastructure to handle your data:
          - Google Cloud Platform (GCP) for hosting the backend and processing email content
          - Firebase for database storage
          - Google Secret Manager for storing API keys and credentials securely
          - OpenAI API to generate summaries of your emails
We do not store your Gmail credentials. Authentication is handled through secure OAuth 2.0 flows provided by Google. All data transmission is protected by TLS (Transport Layer Security) encryption. Please note: While Firebase encrypts data on disk at the infrastructure level (encryption-at-rest), email content and summary data stored in Firebase are not additionally encrypted at the application level.

🔎 Data Access
The App requires read-only access to your Gmail inbox in order to:
          - Retrieve the content of unread messages
          - Generate and store summaries
          - Create a daily overview of recent unread emails (in both text and audio)
We do not:
          - Send emails on your behalf
          - Share or sell your data with third parties
          - Use your email data for advertising, analytics, or training AI models

⚠️ Limitations & Disclaimer
Despite these precautions, no digital system is completely secure. The App relies on third-party APIs (e.g., Gmail, OpenAI), and service availability may be affected by external factors beyond our control. You acknowledge and agree that:
          - We cannot guarantee absolute data confidentiality or integrity
          -
You use the App at your own risk, especially with regard to sensitive or private information
          - We are not liable for any unauthorized access, data breach, loss, or exposure, even if resulting from third-party infrastructure failure

If you believe your data has been compromised in any way, please contact us immediately at quentin@tldr.af.

          - Generate per-email text summaries via the OpenAI API
          - Create a daily digest of unread emails in both text and audio form
          - Display relevant summaries within the TLDR iOS client

What We Don’t Do

          - Share, sell, or trade your email content with any third parties
          - Train AI models using your email data
          - Display third-party ads based on your content
          - Allow human reviewers to read your personal emails

Data Retention
          - TLDR stores summary data, not full emails, for as long as needed to serve the App’s features or until you delete your account
          - Raw email content is only processed temporarily and is not retained unless required to generate summaries
          - You may request deletion of your stored data at any time by contacting quentin@tldr.af

Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion or limitation of liability for certain types of damages, so parts of this section may not apply to you. In that case, our liability will be limited to the maximum extent permitted by law.

We are under no obligation to maintain or provide access to any data associated with your account after termination.

10. Governing Law / Jurisdiction

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of Delaware, without regard to its conflict of law provisions.

By using TLDR, you agree that any disputes arising out of or related to the App, its services, or these Terms will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts located in the State of Delaware, and you consent to personal jurisdiction and venue in those courts.

If you do not agree with the modified Terms, you must discontinue use of the App immediately.

12. Contact

If you have any questions about these Terms, wish to report a bug, request data deletion, or express any concerns regarding your privacy or security, you may contact the developer directly at: quentin@tldr.af
